Headlines: U.S. Open Cup Qualifying Round No. 1 Review

With the Semifinals of the 2026 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup approaching in a few days, the road to the 2027 US Open Cup already got under way over the weekend. The opening round of the Open Division Local Qualifying tournament for the 2027 competition kicked off with 26 games and one more that was postponed.

Quote, Unquote: Kevin Schohl

"It's not interesting to me and it's not interesting to Gabe (Hoffman-Johnson, the club founder) to just sort of pay our way up. I think with the visibility of pro-rel (promotion and relegation) we love the charm of winning to move up."

- Portland Hearts of Pine president Kevin Schohl on whether his club will be looking to be promoted to the USL Championship without earning it through sporting merit.
