Sixby Hanover Settles in with New Family on Maine Coast

About six months after we donated our partnership's inaugural pacer Sixby Hanover to Futures for Standardbreds to be trained for a second career, we're thrilled to report that Sixby (right) has completed that organization's retraining program for riding horses and he's been adopted by a family of riders on the Maine coast.

We'll continue to keep tabs on Sixby, and will provide more public updates about Sixby's post-racing career if that's something his new adopted family is comfortable with.

    In the meantime: Sláinte, Sixby!

Sixby Hanover Enters Futures for Standardbreds Aftercare Program

Our partnership's first pacer Sixby Hanover left Norton Farm in Falmouth, Maine yesterday afternoon, and has officially been entered in the Futures for Standardbreds program to begin training for a post-racing career.

Sixby made his Maine debut with our partnership on May 7, 2022, and he raced 77 times on the Maine circuit before we retired him as a healthy and sound pacer on December 1, 2024.

We're sad that Sixby won't be in our stable when the racing season begins again in Maine this spring, but we're proud of how we campaigned Sixby and we're grateful that we've been able to provide Sixby with a safe and healthy post-racing career.

We look forward to following and sharing his progress in his second career!

Data Dump: Maine Harness Training + Boarding Fees, 1989 vs. 2024

An ad for the Beckwith Stable in the October 1989 issue of Northeast Harness News advertises their training fees as $12 per day, with their boarding fees at $8 per day. When adjusted for inflation, those fees are $30.08 and $20.05 respectively.

Which means the daily $30 training fee or $20 boarding fee we currently pay for Crimson Pine and Sixby Hanover at historic Norton Farm in Falmouth, Maine is right in line with inflation over the last 35 years.
