(This is the time of year when the horse racing season for the Ivory Pine Syndicate is winding down, but the soccer season for the Rosevelt Soccer Club is gearing up. Here's a 90-day glimpse of the day in the life of a horse racing managing partner and soccer club administrator.)
Awoke, 5:56a
It's a holiday after a busy weekend, so it was a lazy day.
Read An Event in Autumn, 1p-1:30p
I usually try to read the next book in Henning Mankell's Wallander series about an aging Swedish detetctive every summer, but I'm trying to read more often year-round. I like Mankell's sparse writing style, and Sweden is one of two other two countries I'd live in besides the United States.
Attended older daughter's high school soccer game, 5p-7p
It's been rainy, so our daughter's high school game was relocated from the school's grass field to the University of Southern Maine's turf field. Our club uses the turf field as our primary home field in the spring, and it's one of my favorite fields in Maine.
Watched Aruba vs. Haiti CONCACAF Nations League game, 8p-9:30p
Paramount+ is the most underrated streaming service for soccer, and I couldn't resist seeing what an Aruban home game would look like on live video.
My late grandfather and grandmother had vacationed annually in Aruba since the 1970s, and attending an Aruban league game has been on my bucket list since reading this short blog post. Jon Arnold and his Get CONCAFed substack are also good resources to learn about more countries in our national teams' confederation than the three countries that represent North America in the region that also includes Central American and the Carribean.
