(This is the time of year when the horse racing season for the Ivory Pine Syndicate is winding down, but the soccer season for the Rosevelt Soccer Club is gearing up. Here's a 90-day glimpse of the day in the life of a horse racing managing partner and soccer club administrator.)
Awoke, 5:58a
Handicapped soccer games, 6a-6:15a
It's a Saturday, so my wagering menu consisted of 12-game parlay for $0.10.
My wager consisted of twelve clubs in seven different leagues and four different countries, and it was my worst day of handicapping with only three winning legs.
Handicapped races, 6:15a-6:30a
My track record with these wagers was better, with three winning wagers at Keeneland Race Course: A couple Pick 3 wagers that paid $25.70 on a combined $6 in bets and a Double that paid $8.34 on a $1 bet.
Hiked Black Cap Mountain, 8:45a-10a
I weighed 215 pounds on March 9, 2015, which was only a couple months into Rosevelt SC's inaugural season. Since then I've steadily put on about 60 pounds, in large part because of the time and stress involved in building a soccer club from the ground up.
This summer was the first time I'd gone more than a couple weeks without doing any meaningful Rosevelt SC work, and right-sizing my work-life balance and getting healthier is a focus for this upcoming season. It's a constant struggle, but this hike with my family and neighbors in New Hampshire is hopefully a step in the right direction.
Listened to In the Money Media's Harness Players' Podcast, 1p-2p
Thoroughbred racing is the hot topic on most horse racing podcasts and podcast networks, but Standardbred-themed podcasts usually pop up on most of the sport's big days. Today was arguably the biggest day on harness racing's calendar because of the Breeders Crown, and this was probably the best round-table listen I can remember for a Standardbred card.
Watched races, 2:30p-5:15p
Streamed Keeneland's closing day coverage. Already can't wait for the track's spring meet to start in April.
Ivory Pine Syndicate admin, 7:15p-7:45p
Sent out partner update about Sixby Hanover's, and updated our offering's finances with the recent arrival of purse checks from the Fryeburg Fair and Bangor Raceway.
Watched Breeders Crown, 8p-11p
The Breeders Crown is harness racing's pinnace event, with two days of championship races for pacers and trotters of all divisions. Tonight's card featured Breeders Crown races with 70 combined starters and about $4.5 million dollars in combined purses.
Our partnership's goal is to have a starter in a Breeders Crown race within the next decade. The odds aren't in our favor, but it's also not an impossible goal thanks to the sport's open access and relatively low barriers to entry.
Asleep, 11:11p
