90 Days: Sunday, October 27 (Day No. 22)

(This is the time of year when the horse racing season for the Ivory Pine Syndicate is winding down, but the soccer season for the Rosevelt Soccer Club is gearing up. Here's a 90-day glimpse of the day in the life of a horse racing managing partner and soccer club administrator.)

Awoke, 7:41a

Handicapped races, 8a-8:30a

Reading one public handicapper sum up their perspective on our Sixby Hanover with the saying, "Positive feeling--he might steal this race" was the highlight of this morning's handicapping session.

Handicapped soccer games, 8:30a-9a

Today's 12-game, $0.10 parlay featured nine different competitions played in nine different countries. Only hit on seven of the 12-game parlay, which would've paid $19.70.

Watched Sixby Hanover's race, 11a-11:45a

It's the last weekend before our home track First Tracks Cumberland kicks off its winter meet, so I decided to forego the 4-hour roundtrip drive to Bangor and watch his race from home.

The live experience is almost always better on race day, but one benefit was being able to sip a homemade Sombrero with Allen's Coffee-Flavored Brandy and cream while watching the race.

Sixby paced pretty well, and he finished well enough to earn us a purse check to cover the day's expenses. But he couldn't overcome the tough post position to do any better than fifth.

Watched Breidablik vs. Vikingur Reykjavik, 2:30p-4:15p

These are two of the clubs that have hosted our club's visits to Iceland since 2019, and their men's teams squared off against each other in the league championship. Vikingur hosted the decisive game at the end of the 27-game season that started back in April, and the interest in the game was so high that the hosts needed to build temporary overflow stands using pallets

Breidablik won the game 3-0, but it was closer than that. As a result, that club has qualified for next season's UEFA Champions League and Vikingur will continue to compete in the UEFA Conference League.

Hosted Maine Soccer Hall of Fame Board of Directors' meeting, 7p-8p

Tonight was the first Maine Soccer Hall of Fame Board of Directors meeting that included representatives from the six stakeholder organizations involved in developing this organization, and we accomplished the two big steps--approval of bylaws and election of officers--needed to become an official non-profit corporation registered with the State of Maine.

Asleep, 10:18p
