90 Days: Wednesday, October 16 (Day No. 11)

(This is the time of year when the horse racing season for the Ivory Pine Syndicate is winding down, but the soccer season for the Rosevelt Soccer Club is gearing up. Here's a 90-day glimpse of the day in the life of a horse racing managing partner and soccer club administrator.)

Awoke, 5:48a

Worked at Westbrook High School, 7:30a-2:30p

Visited Crimson Pine and Sixby Hanover at Norton Farm, 3:15p-4p

Coached younger daughter's team's training session, 4:30p-5:45p

Our U14 Girls team has its first playoff game coming up this weekend, so this could be the last town-based club training session I run for one of my own teams for the foreseeable future.

It's a bittersweet experience: On the one hand, these weeknight sessions a couple times a week during the fall have been a regular feature of my life for about a dozen years. But on the other hand, I won't miss waking up on a Friday morning and wondering where my week went, after the previous four nights had consisted of our older daughter's high school games or our younger daughter's training sessions.

Because of our recent tournament, middle school soccer, and the upcoming playoff game, this weekend's game will be our players' seventh game in eleven days. So this session was relatively light, and the focus was on restarts, a couple tactical walkthroughs, and penalty kicks.

Asleep, 10:19p
