90 Days: Friday, November 8 (Day No. 34)

(This is the time of year when the horse racing season for the Ivory Pine Syndicate is winding down, but the soccer season for the Rosevelt Soccer Club is gearing up. Here's a 90-day glimpse of the day in the life of a horse racing managing partner and soccer club administrator.)

Rosevelt SC admin, 3p-5:30p

Our club is hosting another round of player evaluations this weekend for a few age groups, our annual meeting and kick-off event is next weekend, and our club's oldest teams are playing in college showcases in a few weeks. The focus right now is ensuring we take care of those short-term projects, while still focusing on the myriad of tasks required to be prepared for the start of our full-time programming in early January.

Driving to work when it's dark, and then driving home when it's dark will become the norm pretty soon.

Attended our younger daughter's end-of-season celebration, 6p-8p

For the last six seasons, I've coached our younger daughter's town-based club team from August-November. They played in the Fall Classic league organized by Soccer Maine, and this was their last season before aging out of the program.

The club is generous about providing the oldest teams funds for a late season celebration, so we booked bowling lanes at Junction Bowl (which is the apparel sponsor of the Rosevelt Soccer Club) and parents and players enjoyed their last social event together as a team.

Watched races, 8:30p-9p

One of our Ivory Pine Syndicate partners is involved with Donegal Racing, a Thoroughbred partnership. Donegal primarily partners with well-known trainers like Brad Cox and Todd Pletcher, but they've also had a string of horses on the Louisiana circuit trained by a young trainer Dane Noel.

Last night was a big night of racing at Delta Downs, and they had two, 2-year-olds (Contrabandist and Map of Donegal) race in one stakes race and a 4-year-old (The Donegal Clan) competing in the Delta Mile Stakes. Donegal Racing's runners finished 4th, 3rd, and 2nd respectively.

Asleep, 9:31p
