90 Days: Saturday, November 9 (Day No. 35)

(This is the time of year when the horse racing season for the Ivory Pine Syndicate is winding down, but the soccer season for the Rosevelt Soccer Club is gearing up. Here's a 90-day glimpse of the day in the life of a horse racing managing partner and soccer club administrator.)

Attended Sixby Hanover's race, 11a-2:30p

One of our partners volunteered to bring a grill for Sixby's race at First Tracks Cumberland, so we had an impromptu tailgating session about two hours before his race. The hospitality amenities at the track for the winter meet are spartan, so it was great to grill burgers, drink a few adult beverages, and catch up with partners who hadn't been able to attend many of Sixby's races on the fair circuit this summer.

In his race, Sixby spurt out to a quick lead and actually stretched his lead out to sixth lengths before the field caught up to him in the final quarter and he finished third. He earned a $456 purse check, which earned him a spot in the Century Club, which nudged him above $100,000 in career earnings in 135 career races.

Not bad for an undersized pacer who sold for $9,000 as a yearling in the 2019 Ohio Selected Jug Sale.

Of Sixby's 135 career races, seventy-four of them have been here in Maine with our partnership. And of his $100,101 career earnings, he's earned $40,740 in purses in Maine with our partnership.

Speaking of our partnership, our twenty partners have paid $1,005 since April 2022 for Sixby's purchase and to fill any gaps between the costs of Sixby's care and training and his purse earnings.

Over a 30-month period of time, those partner fees are equal to about $33/month. I can't speak for our other partners, but I probably spend more than $33 every month on worse things, and the experiences and the lessons over the last 30 months our undersized pacer has provided us has been worth it.
