(This is the time of year when the horse racing season for the Ivory Pine Syndicate is winding down, but the soccer season for the Rosevelt Soccer Club is gearing up. Here's a 90-day glimpse of the day in the life of a horse racing managing partner and soccer club administrator.)

Hosted Rosevelt SC player evaluations, 11:30a-2:30p
Even though our club's season doesn't start until January, we need to start building our rosters in June.
In fact, we host our player evaluations for the next season even before our current season ends. And we need to host our evals so early, because that's what other clubs in southern Maine have done since the two biggest multi-state franchises left our youth state association about a decade ago and no longer needed to adhere to the regulation that evaluations couldn't be held until July 1 every summer.
That rule went away because it hurt the clubs that remained affiliated with our youth state association, but we haven't applied the old rule since the remaining multi-state program rejoined Maine's youth state association.
Because our retention rates our so high, we're generally able to fill at least 90% of our roster spots by July 1. But we usually need to host a second evaluation in November, especially for our youngest 10U teams, and we hosted those evaluations yesterday afternoon at the Gorham Sports Center, our home facility since our club's founding in 2014.
Evaluating our use of player evaluations is on the list of policies and practices I'd like our club to review as part of a RSC 2030 Committee our directors' have approved, because all of us Maine-based premier clubs would ideally be reclassified and redefined as regional clubs with formal affiliations with Fall Classic clubs that provide complementary programming from August-November.
Ideally, we'd recognize Maine's relative small size could be a potential asset in the sense that we should be in a better position to improve connectivity and collaboration among the various silos and stakeholders that make up soccer in Maine.
And we'd leverage that improved connectivity and collaboration among the various stakeholders to develop a local --> regional --> state developmental pathway for our players and coaches that would focus more on development than on recruiting, emphasize more in-state competition than out-of-state travel, and ultimately make the talent identification process more efficient and more effective.
