90 Days: Wednesday, November 13 (Day No. 38)

(This is the time of year when the horse racing season for the Ivory Pine Syndicate is winding down, but the soccer season for the Rosevelt Soccer Club is gearing up. Here's a 90-day glimpse of the day in the life of a horse racing managing partner and soccer club administrator.)

Awoke, 5:05a

Updated sub notes, 5:45a-6:30a

After being able to effectively manage my ear pain over the last month, it's gotten worse over the last 18 hours. There's pressure in my ears as though I'm on the descent of a plane ride and sensitivity to high-pitched frequency, dissonance, cross-talk, and loud noises. For the most part I can control my settings at school, but this morning's pain and sensitivity is worse than it's been over the last month.

One of the things you don't learn in school while you're earning your teaching degree is how preparing for an absence is in some ways more time-consuming and more effort than actually working.

Read The Poacher's Son, 7:30a-8a; 10:15a-10:45a; 11:15a-11:45a

The focus of the morning was keeping my environment as quiet as possible, so it was a good opportunity to reread most of Maine author Paul Doiron's initial book in his Bowditch series.

Attended Rosevelt SC player's letter of intent signing, 1:45p-2:45p

After picking up our older daughter from school, we drove to a neighboring high school to attend her club teammate's signing of a letter of intent to Southern New Hampshire University, a Top 15 program in Division II of women's soccer. It was a quiet, intimate event that is the culmination of a lot of hard work by her teammate and her teammate's family, and it was great to see a player I've helped coach for almost the last decade fulfill one of her big goals as a soccer player.

Rosevelt SC admin, 4p-4:30p; 5:30p-6:30p; 7-9p

This is the time of year when our club's to-do list seems to keep growing even as we cross off items, but today's highlight was hosting a virtual Board of Directors meeting among our club's directors.

Most of our directors have been working together since our club established a Board of Directors a few years into its existence, so we usually host no more than six formal meetings a year to coordinate club policies and practices.

Asleep, 10:09p
