(This is the time of year when the horse racing season for the Ivory Pine Syndicate is winding down, but the soccer season for the Rosevelt Soccer Club is gearing up. Here's a 90-day glimpse of the day in the life of a horse racing managing partner and soccer club administrator.)

Attended Maine Harness Horsemen's Association's annual meeting and banquet, 3p-8p
The Maine Harness Horsemen's Association hosted its annual meeting and banquet at the Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn, and it was a good opportunity to close a good year on the track.
Turnout among owners, trainers, drivers, and all of our sport's other stakeholders was pretty good with about 150 of us in attendance. The event is a good opportunity to see familiar faces in new settings, as well as to meet new people. And it's also a good opportunity to think about and discuss with really knowledgeable and experienced folks bigger picture issues, including an idea for how we might be able to bring new owners into our sport.
On the other hand, the timing of the event was a reminder of how relatively fragile our sport is right now in the United States: On a night we were all celebrating the relatively decent health of our sport in Maine, the historic track Freehold Raceway in New Jersey was hosting its final day of racing before closing.
As someone who attended the final day of racing at Scarborough Downs on November 28, 2020, that juxtaposition is too close for comfort.
