(This is the time of year when the horse racing season for the Ivory Pine Syndicate is winding down, but the soccer season for the Rosevelt Soccer Club is gearing up. Here's a 90-day glimpse of the day in the life of a horse racing managing partner and soccer club administrator.)

One of the courses I teach is Pop Culture, a semester elective class that focuses on a different form of pop culture each decade from the 1930s to the 2020s.
Back in September we focused on sports in the 1930s and 1940s, and studied (among other subjects) horse racing, Seabiscuit, and the Great Depression. That led to a 60-minute barn visit at historic Norton Farm in Falmouth, the active horse farm where our pacers Crimson Pine and Sixby Hanover are stabled.
We had about twenty students on the trip, and our trainer Mike Graffam hosted a brief Q&A session outside the barn, his Team Graffam crew showed them what their typical morning chores look like, assistant trainer Beth Graffam harnessed and jogged South St. Dottie on the farm's training track, and the students fed about 20 stalled horses fifteen pounds of carrots and five pounds of apples.
Dating back to the farm's start as a racing stable in 1958 under the leadership of Mike's grandfather Loring Norton, the farm has always been public-facing and open to visitors. And their tradition of ambassadorship for Maine harness racing continued yesterday morning when about 20 kids from Westbrook had a positive experience they'll remember for a long time.
Rosevelt SC admin, 4p-5p
The big administrative push before the end of this week is finalizing uniform numbers for about a dozen new players, setting up our online coaches' apparel store, and ensuring we allocate our royalty funds from our apparel vendors in the most efficient way possible.
