(This is the time of year when the horse racing season for the Ivory Pine Syndicate is winding down, but the soccer season for the Rosevelt Soccer Club is gearing up. Here's a 90-day glimpse of the day in the life of a horse racing managing partner and soccer club administrator.)

Visited Portland, 8:15a-1:15p
Our older daughter and I took the Husky Line bus from downtown Gorham to downtown Portland. It was about a 30-minute ride each way, and the roundtrip fare for the two of us was $6.
It was lightly snowing and quiet when we first got downtown, and we walked about four miles in four hours while finishing our Christmas shopping, eating lunch, and visiting various spots around the peninsula.
Highlights included:
- The Maine Historical Society, especially their "Music in Maine" exhibit. Also learned more about the process for pitching a potential collaborative exhibit about the history of soccer in Maine, which would be a great project for the Maine Soccer Hall of Fame.
- Off-Track Pizza, which is a horse racing themed slice bar on Exchange Street that just earned a favorable review. A goal is to roll out a beer collab with a local brewery for a Sixby Stout by late October that would benefit Futures for Standardbreds, and a joint launch event involving Off-Track Pizza, the open space right up the street on Exchange Street, and maybe even Oddfellahs for Breeders' Cup weekend is now on my radar.
- Portland Hearts of Pine pop-up shop on Hanover Street. The new professional club opened this spot after its inaugural jersey reveal event in October, and it sounds like they've been busy ever since. Another positive indicator that Maine is eager for professional soccer, even if our community doesn't fit the current American professional sports model.
- Greater Portland Metro's Husky Line, which runs from the University of Southern Maine's campus in Gorham through the Metro's main hub in downtown Portland. The bus was timely, clean, and
