PPH:
"The way I see it, it’s our job to be loud, which encourages the people around us to be loud, which makes Fitzy a place that players from other teams don’t want to come to," said Sean Daly, 53, a drummer and one of the band’s co-leaders. The Hearts of Pine began playing in the United Soccer League in March. The Valentine Band was formed last fall by members of the Dirigo Union, a group set up independently, by fans, to support and root for the soccer team. There are currently about 17 members in the band, ranging from middle schoolers to people beyond middle age. Some have considerable experience and a few have worked as musicians, others are learning as they go.
Colin Durrant, Mario Moretto, and I co-founded the Dirigo Union in 2020, but only Durrant is still formally involved with the supporters group. Mario had to take a step back when he got the job in Washington, D.C. as a staffer for Maine congressman Jared Golden, and I bowed out of the group's leadership when I co-founded the Maine Soccer Association and Rosevelt SC continued growing.
The new leadership of the supporters' group has been knocking it out of the park with their game day atmospherics and regular podcast. Really proud to have played a role in getting this group off the ground during the height of COVID-19.
